This pocket watch dates from 1930 in the Art Deco style, fashioned from silver, glass, and enamel. The open-face silver case holds a white enamel dial marked with black Roman numerals, an outer minute track, and a subsidiary seconds dial positioned at six o'clock. Original blued steel hands sweep across the face, while a fluted winding crown and suspension loop sit at the twelve o'clock position above the smooth metal bezel. Hallmarks appear inside the case backs. Additional visible details include minute track diamond markers at the quarter-hour positions and dark hands pointing to the numerals. The piece measures 50mm in diameter excluding the crown and loop. In a contemporary home, this gentleman's library accessory serves as a functional timepiece or a decorative display piece on a desk, mantelpiece, or in a collector's cabinet. It suits traditional studies or historical display contexts where period horology is appreciated.

During the 1930s, open-face silver pocket watches were favoured for their clear readability and practical design. High-end British retailers, such as J.W. Benson, frequently collaborated with premier Swiss movement manufacturers like Cyma to produce reliable, high-grade mechanical timepieces for the domestic market.

Pocket watches from this era typically featured solid silver or gold cases, mineral glass crystals, and white enamel dials. The internal mechanical movements relied on steel gears, brass plates, and synthetic jewelled bearings to reduce friction.

Authentic pieces display official hallmarks stamped into the inside of the case back or on the top pendant loop indicating silver purity, city assay office, and date letter. Additionally, dial signatures and maker stamps on the mechanical movement verify the manufacturer and retailer.

Beyond wearing as a classic accessory with formal attire or waistcoats, pocket watches are often displayed on dedicated desk stands or under small glass cloches as decorative horological accents in studies or offices.

To preserve a mechanical pocket watch, store it in a dry environment away from moisture and extreme temperatures. Silver cases should be gently buffed with a soft microfibre cloth, and the internal movement requires professional mechanical servicing every three to five years.
