1930s Art Deco Zenith Pocket Watch

1930s Art Deco Zenith pocket watch.

The watch has 15-jewel calibre 18.28.1.P.E stem-winding movement which is working nicely. This movement was launched in 1905 and was in production right up until 1982. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 65399. This low number tells us that the watch was assembled in the French Zenith factory in Besancon which is near to the Swiss border. This factory was established in 1923 and worked alongside the Swiss Zenith factory. The French arm had their own serial number system although it is estimated that numbers never reached one million. The records have been destroyed so unfortunately there is no dating system as there is with Zenith’s Swiss watches.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has some scratching where a tool has slipped in the past.

The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is chrome plated and it has an Art Deco design to the hinged case back. The case is in good condition, light surface marking and a hint of unevenness to the back but nothing too serious at all. The inside of the case back has the Zenith logo.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in lovely condition with handsome original hands.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
