Description

Antique carved oak blanket box in the Jacobean manner, a handsome and substantial coffer of good quality, showcasing fine hand-carved decoration and traditional joined construction.

The hinged lid is panelled in three and lifts to reveal a generous open interior with a boarded floor, ideal for storing blankets, linen, toys or keepsakes.

The front is richly carved, with a frieze of lunettes filled with stylised fans above three plain panels, framed by stiles and a lower rail carved with interlaced guilloche roundels. The sides and back are panelled, and the chest stands on stile feet.

The oak displays a fine grain and a deep, rich colour, with an attractive dark patina that shows off the carving beautifully.

Presented in good condition, it is a very desirable piece that would work equally well at the foot of a bed, in a hallway or as a coffee table, a perfect addition to any traditional or country interior.
