Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Revolving bookcases were patented in the late nineteenth century and became prominent during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Designed primarily for libraries, studies, and offices, these units offered dense book storage within a compact footprint by utilising a central rotating mechanism.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, selected for structural stability. The internal rotating core relies on an iron or steel central spindle mounted onto a heavy cross-shaped timber base.

Authentic period examples feature cast iron revolving mechanisms underneath, solid timber shelving, mortise and tenon joinery, and slatted or cross-gained vertical retainers. Original pieces often display castors beneath the base feet and hand-assembled brass or iron fixings.

A revolving bookcase functions as an occasional side table next to an armchair or sofa in a living room, study, or reading nook. The top surface provides space for a table lamp, while the lower tiers offer accessible storage for books and periodicals.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, and apply light oil to the central metal spindle if the rotation mechanism requires smooth operation.
