This Edwardian sterling silver dressing tray originates from the 1900 period, hallmarked in Birmingham in 1906 with the maker's mark for Henry Matthews. The rectangular piece displays a polished silver finish with elaborate decoration including repousse scrollwork, openwork lattice patterns, a foliate border, and a plain central cartouche without any engravings or monograms. Visible details comprise undulating moulded rims, asymmetrical corner curves, and pierced openwork panels across the surface. Measuring 26 cm across by 19 cm, this functional dressing accessory suits placement on a bedside table or dressing table in a bedroom or bathroom interior to hold small personal items, jewellery, or daily accessories. The substantial construction weighs 148.7 grams and presents a bright metallic sheen with reflective surfaces.

Edwardian sterling silver dressing accessories, produced between 1901 and 1910, often feature intricate repousse relief work, foliate motifs, scrollwork, and lattice patterns inspired by Rococo and classical revival styles.

Craftsmen created decorative details using repousse and chasing techniques, hammering the reverse side of sheet sterling silver to form raised relief motifs before finishing the front surface with fine engraved details.

Authentic British sterling silver displays a set of official hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for silver purity, a town mark indicating the assay office, a date letter representing the year of manufacture, and a makers mark.

An antique silver tray can be placed on a bedside table, bathroom counter, or sideboard to organise small personal items, perfume bottles, or daily jewellery while adding contrast to modern textures.

Maintain sterling silver by dusting regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and applying specialized silver polish sparingly to remove tarnish, avoiding abrasive cleansers that can erode embossed surface detailing.
