Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large Japanese bronze table lamp from the Meiji period combines traditional craft with domestic illumination, standing 70 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 42 cm deep to suit a sideboard top in a gentleman's library. The dark bronze vase base features a turned wooden foot, cast dragon-shaped handles, and polychrome champlevé enamel roundels depicting flowers and plants against an original old patinated finish. A cream pleated fabric shade crowns the fitting. The metalwork and enamel display original old unrestored condition, showing varied colours of blue, green, and gold within the floral roundels and leafy surfaces. The wired construction includes a fabric cable leading up to the wide conical shade, which diffuses light downwards over the textured bronze body. This piece serves as a functional accent light on a large sideboard or desk.

FAQs

Champleve is an enamelling technique where recesses are cast or carved into the bronze surface and filled with coloured vitreous enamel paste before firing and polishing to create integrated surface decoration.

These pieces consist of heavy cast bronze, vitreous glass enamels in various tones, brass electrical fittings, and typically a fabric or paper lampshade.

Authentic period examples feature substantial cast bronze bases, hand-finished detailing, natural surface patination, and intricate enamel cells showcasing mythological motifs like dragons and phoenixes.

Position the lamp on a dark wood sideboard or console table to establish a focal point with warm accent lighting while complementing neutral contemporary furnishings.

Dust the bronze and enamelled areas regularly using a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals, moisture, or abrasive polishes that could strip the original patina.
