FAQs

An 18th-century oak dresser typically comprises a lower sideboard base fitted with drawers or cupboards, topped with an open rack designed to store and display plate collections and pewter.

Georgian dressers were constructed using solid oak joined with wooden pegs, mortise-and-tenon joints, hand-dovetailed drawer boxes, and hand-sawn backboards.

Authentic pieces feature indications of period age, including hand-forged iron nails, irregular saw marks on panel backs, original hand-cast brass hardware, and natural wear on drawer runners.

Position the dresser against a neutral wall in a kitchen or dining area, layering the open shelves with modern ceramics, glassware, or vintage stoneware to create visual interest.

Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice annually using a soft cloth, keeping the timber positioned away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
