This Victorian novelty miniature silver go-to-bed is a chamberstick created by William Comyns in Birmingham in 1891. Made from sterling silver with a reflective silver finish, the piece takes the form of a heart-shaped base featuring an out-turned rim, a central candle socket, and a twisted wire loop handle attached to the side. Clear and readable stamped hallmarks appear near the rim on the top surface. The construction shows smooth, polished metal surfaces without dents, splits, or losses. The piece measures 1.5 cm high, 3.5 cm wide, and 4.7 cm deep. This miniature item suits placement on a bedside table, desk, or display cabinet within a home interior, functioning as a decorative collectible for enthusiasts of antique silver and miniature objects.

A go-to-bed is a small 19th-century novelty item designed to hold a single match or wax taper, providing just enough light for a person to navigate to bed before extinguishing itself.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, electroplated nickel silver, brass, or bronze, often featuring cast or engine-turned detailing.

Authentic pieces carry British assay office hallmarks, including the makers mark, lion passant for sterling quality, town mark, and date letter indicating the exact year of manufacture.

These small decorative pieces are suited for display on a bedside table, mantelpiece, or curated shelf alongside antique books and small curios.

Maintain silver items by gently dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and using a dedicated, non-abrasive silver polish sparingly to prevent surface wear.
