This Victorian decorative bowl is made of solid silver and finished with a polished metallic silver colour. The piece takes a circular pedestal form with spiral fluting covering the curved body, a scalloped rim, and a round moulded base. Faint surface marks, minor dinks, and knocks show visible signs of age across the silver surface. Measuring 5 cm high and 8 cm wide, the small scale makes it ideal for everyday placement on a sideboard top to suit an English Country House interior aesthetic. London hallmarks for 1909 and maker Josiah Williams appear on the silver. Such traditional tableware items work well in contemporary living spaces for holding small trinkets or simply as a decorative accent piece on display in a dining room or hallway console table.

During the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, silversmiths frequently incorporated spiral fluting, swirling channels, and scalloped rims inspired by 18th-century Rococo and Queen Anne design traditions.

Antique silver bowls were predominantly produced from solid sterling silver, stamped with official assay marks, or crafted from silver plate (EPNS) electroplated over a base metal frame.

Authenticity is verified by examining stamped hallmarks or makers marks indicating metal purity, assay office location, and date letters, alongside visible signs of historical wear and hand-worked detailing.

An antique silver bowl works well positioned on a sideboard, coffee table, or dining table, functioning either as an isolated decorative piece or filled with subtle botanical elements.

To preserve silver finishes, polish periodically using a soft cotton cloth paired with specialized non-abrasive silver cream, followed by washing in warm water with mild detergent and thorough drying.
