This German solid silver beaker dates from the turn of the century and belongs to the barware category with a gentleman's library design vibe. The object takes the form of a small, tapered cylindrical cup fashioned from 800 solid silver with parcel-gilt finishes in silver and gold colours. A detailed embossed relief scene depicts a golfer in action, complemented by light script engraving on the side and a hallmarked base with visible stamps. The visible surface shows light tarnishing and minor wear appropriate for its age, while the interior and rims exhibit a bright golden tone contrasted against the dark oxidised recesses of the figural relief. Measuring 5.6 cm in height, the vessel suits placement on a sideboard top to hold small items or serve as a decorative display piece in a study, lounge or home bar setting.

Popularised in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, silver beakers were frequently presented as sporting competition prizes or used as luxury barware. German 800 silver pieces from circa 1900 often feature detailed relief work depicting sporting pursuits such as golf.

These beakers were crafted from an 800-grade silver alloy, containing 80 percent pure silver combined with copper to increase durability. Pieces frequently feature parcel-gilding or gold-plated interiors to protect the metal from oxidisation caused by beverages.

Authentic German silver from around 1900 is stamped with official hallmarks, typically including the 800 standard mark alongside the crescent moon and crown national emblem. Look for handcrafted repousse relief detail and original maker stamps near the rim or base.

A silver beaker functions effectively on a bar tray, sideboard, or desk as a luxury toothpick holder, pen pot, or small floral vase. The contrasting silver and gilded metal tones add texture when layered against dark timber or marble surfaces.

Wash silver barware by hand using warm water and a mild detergent, drying immediately with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid dishwashers and abrasive polishes, using a gentle silver cloth to maintain the lustre without removing delicate relief detail.
