Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of French Louis XV style stools dates from 1880 and originates from the French Chateau aesthetic. Each piece uses giltwood and patterned velvet in a gold palette, standing on curved cabriole legs linked by ornate stretchers with carved scrollwork, while flame decoration sits underneath. The upholstered tops display a traditional floral motif in shades of gold and cream, set against an aged gilt finish on the wooden frames. The stools measure 51 cm high and 38 cm square. Suitable for positioning at the foot of the bed or as occasional seating in a living room, these antique seats offer a functional option for period interiors. They function well as decorative accents in a hallway or dressing room, providing compact seating that maintains a consistent historical style. The matching pair brings a coordinated appearance to traditional interior schemes without dominating the surrounding space.

French Louis XV style stools, often referred to as tabourets, feature characteristic cabriole legs, floral carved detailing, and gilded wood frames. Popularised during the 18th century, these low seating options were designed for formal salons and royal courts.

Traditional French gilt stools are constructed from carved hardwoods such as beech, coated with gesso and covered in layered gold leaf. The upholstered seats historically incorporate horsehair stuffing, jute webbing, and decorative velvet or brocade upholstery fabrics.

Authentic giltwood furniture exhibits natural surface wear to the gold leaf, frequently revealing the red or grey clay bole underneath. Hand-carved joinery, peg construction, and age-related oxidisation on the underside further indicate historical craftsmanship.

French gilt stools can be positioned at the foot of a bed, placed beneath a hall console table, or arranged near a fireplace. Metallic finishes and formal profiles provide visual contrast when set against clean-lined contemporary decor.

Clean giltwood frames using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster, avoiding water and liquid polishes which can dissolve gesso layers. Fabric upholstery should be gently vacuumed using a low-suction brush attachment.
