Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Arts and Crafts solid oak bookcase dates from 1930 and has a warm brown finish. The upper section contains three open shelves filled with leather-bound volumes, while the lower section features a double-door cupboard with linenfold carved panels, round wooden pull knobs, and exposed metal strap hinges. The top is finished with a flared cornice, and the entire unit stands on short bracket feet. The wood exhibits a medium grain with natural variations in tone across the panels and shelves. Measuring 134 cm high, 62 cm wide, and 32 cm deep, the bookcase fits into a study, home library, or living room for storing books and displaying decorative objects. The compact proportions suit smaller spaces while providing substantial vertical storage capacity in a traditional interior setting.

FAQs

Open oak bookcases became prominent in British domestic interiors during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, bridging utility and decorative craft with features like carved panels and exposed shelving.

Historical oak bookcases were crafted using mortise and tenon joinery, featuring solid timber boards, hand-carved cabinet doors, and reinforced shelves designed to bear substantial weight.

Authentic period pieces display signs of hand-planed surfaces, traditional iron or brass hardware, authentic wood grain variation, and natural age-related patina on unseen timber areas.

Position the bookcase in a study or living area, pairing structured book displays with decorative ceramics or metalwork to balance the deep wood tones against contemporary walls.

Keep oak furniture positioned away from direct heat sources and damp environments, dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax annually to maintain the timber finish.
