This Georgian sterling silver condiment label or bottle ticket is rectangular with canted corners and incised lettering spelling out the word 'Cayenne' across the centre. The piece has a polished silver finish with a reeded border, a suspension chain attached via jump rings, and a maker's mark only stamped on the metal. It measures 2 cm high by 3 cm wide. In a modern home, this item sits appropriately on a sideboard top, a dining table or a drinks tray to identify antique decanters and spice containers during dinner parties or as part of a traditional display in an English country house interior.

Bottle tickets, also known as decanter labels, originated in the eighteenth century to identify the contents of opaque glass bottles, condiments, sauces, and spirits on the dining table.

Georgian bottle tickets were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, Sheffield plate, or enamel, often featuring hand-incised lettering and fine link suspension chains.

Authentic Georgian examples display period hallmarks or makers marks, precise incised lettering, and hand-finished details around the suspension loops and borders.

These silver labels can be suspended over glass decanters on a drinks trolley, arranged in decorative display frames, or incorporated into modern barware styling.

Clean gently with a soft cotton cloth and a specialised silver polish, taking care to avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive rubbing that could wear down fine engraving.
