An unusual 19th. Century ormolu mounted, mahogany and variegated marble topped open bookcase, The inverted breakfront centre flanked by fluted columns with wonderful ormolu mounts. The concave ends and centre frieze having further quality ormolu mounts, the interior with 2 adjustable shelves and the whole raised on an off set plinth base. Condition- superb. This nineteenth-century French Empire open bookcase is formed from dark brown mahogany with variegated marble along the top and gilt-bronze ormolu mounts. The breakfront silhouette centres an inverted section flanked by fluted columns with decorative ormolu capitals, whilst concave ends and the central frieze display further ormolu rosettes and scrolling motifs. Shelves within the open compartments contain rows of books with green, brown and patterned spines, and the entire structure rests on an offset plinth base. Measuring 111 cm high by 142 cm wide and 43 cm deep, the piece provides generous surface and shelf storage.
