Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Globe Wernicke sectional bookcase is a modular system composed of stackable units designed to store books behind protective glass doors. Developed in the late nineteenth century, these pieces allowed users to expand their shelving vertically or horizontally by adding extra sections.

Barrister bookcases are constructed primarily from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, combined with glazed panel doors. The glass can be plain float glass or set within leaded decorative patterns, while metal bands and interlocking pins hold the stackable units together.

Authentic pieces feature labelled metal or paper maker marks inside the individual sections or on the back panels. They also utilise specific interlocking mechanisms, scissor-arm slide mechanisms for the up-and-over doors, and standardised sizing across modules.

A sectional bookcase provides structured storage in home offices, studies, or living rooms. The enclosed display tiers can be used to display curio collections, ceramics, or hardback book series without collecting dust.

Oak frames require regular dust removal with a dry cloth and occasional application of clear beeswax to preserve the wood finish. Leaded glass should be cleaned gently using a soft cloth dampened with water, avoiding chemical spray cleaners on the lead cames.
