This early eighteenth-century Georgian bureau is made from elm in a warm brown timber with a rich golden colour. The piece stands on shaped bracket feet and features a slant front with a brass escutcheon, above four graduated drawers fitted with brass drop handles and brass keyhole escutcheons. The dimensions measure 101 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 52 cm deep, providing a compact storage option with a sloped writing surface. Placed in a study, bedroom, or living area, this item functions as a practical writing desk and chest of drawers combined, suitable for daily use in a traditional home environment.

A slant-front bureau is a writing desk featuring a hinged sloping flap that opens to reveal an interior fitted with small drawers and pigeonholes, set above a chest of storage drawers.

Early eighteenth-century bureaux were predominantly constructed from native hardwoods such as elm, oak, and walnut, joined with hand-cut dovetail joints and fitted with brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic eighteenth-century bureaux feature hand-sawn timber marks, irregular dovetail joints, original iron lock mechanisms, and natural wear along the retractable lopers that support the writing surface.

An antique bureau functions as a compact workspace or statement hallway piece, contrasting effectively against contemporary paint shades, minimalist lighting, and modern artwork.

Preserve the wood by applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources, and maintaining steady indoor humidity to prevent timber movement.
