Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These table lustres form a matching pair in the Regency style, dating from around 1900. Manufactured from gilt bronze and crystal, they display a brilliant gold colour throughout the polished metal surfaces and clear transparency in the hanging elements. Each lustre incorporates a campana socket set atop a fluted baluster stem and leaf-scroll branches, beneath which hangs an arrangement of facet cut-glass spears and button drops. The upper section features an elaborate pierced scroll canopy, while the lower support rests upon a domed circular weighted base finished with fine reeded moulding around the perimeter. Measuring 21 cm in height and 8 cm in width, these compact decorative pieces suit placement upon a mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table in a formal living room or dining area. Their reflective glass droplets and gilded finish catch ambient light effectively, providing decorative illumination or functioning as striking ornamental accents within a traditional interior scheme.

FAQs

Table lustres are decorative candlesticks or candleholders fitted with hanging glass or crystal prisms designed to catch and refract candlelight. Popularised in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries across Europe, they served both functional and ornamental purposes on dining tables and mantelpieces.

Traditional table lustres are constructed from cast metals such as bronze, brass, or ormolu featuring chased detailing. The hanging drops are typically hand-cut lead crystal or faceted glass suspended by small metal wire links.

Authentic pieces display crisp hand-chased or cast detailing on the metalwork, along with age-appropriate patination or slight oxidisation in recessed areas. Hand-cut glass drops often show minor surface variations, sharp facets, and subtle air bubbles rather than uniform modern machine moulding.

Position a pair of table lustres on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining table to create formal symmetry. Their reflective crystal drops and warm metallic tones pair well with dark timber surfaces, marble tops, or contemporary neutral backdrops.

Dust metal surfaces gently with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical polishes that can strip original gilding. Crystal drops should be removed carefully and cleaned individually using warm water and mild detergent before being dried thoroughly.
