Tea caddy spoons emerged in the 18th century as specialized implements designed to measure loose tea leaves from caddies into teapots, reflecting the growing status and ritual of tea drinking in Britain.

These pieces were predominantly handcrafted from sterling silver using techniques such as hammering, piercing, chasing, and hand-engraving by silversmiths.

Authentic items typically feature crisp hallmarks stamped into the metal, indicating the makers mark, standard mark, town mark, and date letter corresponding to the Georgian period.

Small antique silver pieces can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, arranged on serving trays, or used functionally on a bar cart to introduce historical texture and metallic contrast.

Preservation involves storing pieces in tarnish-resistant cloths, handling them minimally to avoid skin oils, and cleaning them infrequently with specialist non-abrasive silver polish.
