Guilloche enamel features precise, mechanical geometric patterns engraved into metal beneath a translucent layer of coloured enamel, which was highly popular during the early 20th century.

These pieces typically utilized sterling silver or silver gilt as a base, combined with vitreous glass enamel fired at high temperatures to create the translucent coloured surface.

Authenticity is usually verified through makers marks, silver hallmarks, the weight of the piece, and the characteristic depth and slight imperfections of hand-applied vitreous enamel.

In fashion, it can be pinned to lapels, scarves, or hats as a focal accessory. For home interiors, small vintage brooches are often mounted in shadow boxes or displayed on specialist stands as miniature works of art.

Keep enamel items away from harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, and prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading. Store them individually in soft pouches and clean gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth.
