Caddy spoons became popular during the late 18th and early 19th centuries as tea grew into a valuable commodity, requiring specialised utensils to measure loose leaves from a caddy.

These pieces are typically hand-crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as die-stamping, piercing, and fine dot-prick or bright-cut engraving.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, including the makers mark, standard mark, duty mark, and date letter.

Antique silver items can be displayed within glass cabinets, shadow boxes, or on specialist display stands as part of a curated tablescape or cabinet of curiosities.

Preservation requires storing silver in tarnish-resistant cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners, and occasionally applying gentle polishes specifically formulated for antique metals.
