Caddy spoons emerged in the mid-18th century as specialized implements designed to measure loose tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot, reflecting the high status and expense of tea at the time.

They were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, casting, and hand-engraving, often featuring shell-shaped bowls and decorative handles.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark indicating sterling purity, a duty mark, and a date letter corresponding to the assay office.

Antique silver can be displayed in glass cabinets, arranged on sideboards as part of a curated collection, or used practically in contemporary table settings to add historical contrast.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to protect the original patina and delicate engravings from wear.
