Palais Royal opaline glass refers to luxury decorative items and souvenirs sold in the Palais Royal galleries of Paris during the 19th century, known for their fine craftsmanship, rich colours and gilt bronze mounts.

These caskets are traditionally crafted from opaque opaline glass or crystal, frequently fitted with cast brass, gilt bronze or ormolu mounts, hinges and clasp hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-blown glass characteristics such as pontil marks, weightiness, fine hand-painted or gilt detailing, and heavy patination on the metal mounts consistent with nineteenth-century manufacturing techniques.

Place the piece on a dressing table, mantlepiece or glass display cabinet where light can pass through the translucent glass, pairing it with complementary metallic or vintage vanity accessories.

Clean the glass gently with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with lukewarm water, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive pads, or submerging metal-mounted sections to prevent corrosion.
