Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture, emerging in the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and the use of luxurious exotic veneers such as birdseye maple, walnut, and mahogany.

Pieces from this era typically feature a solid wood or softwood carcase entirely enveloped in high-figured wood veneers, applied using traditional hot animal glues and finished with French polish or lacquer.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-accurate construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails on internal drawers, genuine veneer matching patterns, and appropriate wear consistent with age, alongside characteristic stepped or curved architectural silhouettes.

Pair the warm, figured tones of the wood with minimalist surroundings, neutral walls, and metallic accents in brass or chrome to let the striking grain pattern and distinctive geometry take centre stage.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the veneer from drying and splitting, and dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth without using silicone-based polishes.
