Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This vintage silver plate two-arm candelabra stands on a circular base and holds up to three candles in the Neoclassical Revival style of 1940. The piece displays a reflective silver colour with polished metal surfaces, incorporating a knopped stem and reeded curved arms that link the central nozzle to the two outer holders. Structural details include gadrooned rims on the base and drip pans, alongside turned elements along the upright shaft and signed markings to the underside. The entire assembly measures approximately 25 cm in maximum height and 33 cm in maximum width. Suitable for use in an English Country House interior scheme, the candelabra sits neatly as a dining table center or upon a sideboard to create ambient lighting during meals. The sturdy round foot provides a balanced foundation for everyday display, while the classic metallic finish complements traditional table settings. It functions effectively for standard taper candles, bringing symmetrical illumination to formal dining spaces or living areas.

FAQs

A silver plate candelabra is a multi-branched candle holder crafted from a base metal, such as copper or brass, coated with a layer of fine silver through electroplating or fused plating techniques.

Barker Ellis pieces typically feature a solid metal core electroplated with silver, incorporating detailed metalwork such as gadrooning, reeded arms, and weighted bases for stability during use.

Authentic items generally display stamped makers marks, including the Barker Ellis trademark symbol or initials, located on the base rim or underside of the candle holder.

Position the piece as a central focus on a dining table, mantelpiece, or sideboard, using simple white taper candles to complement contemporary decor with classic metalwork.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and specialized silver polish to remove oxidisation, avoiding harsh abrasives that can thin the silver plating over time.
