Opaque twist glasses feature stems enclosing white or coloured enamel glass twists, produced predominantly in England during the 18th century following the repeal of the Glass Excise Act.

These vessels were hand-blown using lead metal glass, with the intricate internal stems formed by drawing out enamel rods and twisting them within a molten gather before being encased in clear glass.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the underside of the folded or conical foot, minor surface wear consistent with age, and the characteristic greyish refraction and weight of eighteenth-century lead glass.

Display the piece within a glass-fronted cabinet or on a dedicated shelving unit where natural light can pass through the clear bowl and highlight the delicate internal enamel twist.

Wash the item strictly by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and never submerge or clean antique glass in a dishwasher.
