FAQs

Needlepoint and tapestry window seats gained popularity in the 19th century, often crafted to fit into deep architectural bay windows or placed at the foot of a bed for practical seating and decorative flair.

These pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames, such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, combined with hand-stitched wool or silk needlepoint upholstery secured with brass upholstery tacks.

Authenticity is assessed through joinery techniques, hand-spun wool yarns with natural dyes in the needlepoint, and age-appropriate wear and oxidisation on the wooden frame.

They work well as a functional accent piece at the end of a bed, beneath a large window, or paired with a contemporary sofa to introduce texture and historic character.

Protect needlepoint from direct sunlight to prevent fading, vacuum gently using a low-suction attachment through a mesh screen, and avoid chemical cleaners on both the wool and the aged wood.
