Tea caddies emerged in the 17th century when tea was a rare and costly commodity imported from Asia, requiring secure, lockable containers to preserve its value.

Authentic period pieces were crafted from solid sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques such as raising, hammering, and soldering, often featuring hallmarks stamped directly into the metal.

Authenticity is verified by checking for legible hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, makers mark, and silver standard, alongside examining the hand-formed construction details and natural oxidisation.

This piece functions effectively as a decorative accent on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table, adding a reflective metallic element to contemporary or traditional room schemes.

Preserve the metal by storing it in a stable environment away from high humidity, handling it with clean hands or cotton gloves, and cleaning infrequently with specialist silver polish to protect the patina.
