Description

We are delighted to offer this stunning antique Victorian diamond brooch made c.1900.

The brooch is made from solid 14ct gold and in spectacular Victorian fashion. Featuring a heart intertwined with a crescent design, profusely decorated with fine old cut diamond of tapering sizes on a silver faced mount, this brooch most certainly presents a stunning and distinguished in design.

Celestial jewellery was increasingly vogue during the Victorian era as renewed fascination of stars & heavens carried into fashion and goldsmithing. The crescent moon was a symbol of the Greek God Selene, representing of feminine empowerment and change just like the phases of the moon. The heart being self-explanatory, represents a romantic and endearing aspect.

In addition to symbolism, such designs also offer the perfect opportunity to display high level goldsmithing, with intricate and fine gold/silver mounts, curves and angles to ensure the diamonds dazzle in their finest light.

Owing to its silver front, the diamonds and its mount have a uniform chic appearance; lively and stylish yet not too ostentatious. This brooch would make for a distinguished and discerning choice to wear with a variety of clothing.

The reverse side of the brooch has a pin which allows it to be worn with jumpers, jackets or coats.

The brooch is unmarked as is common with articles of this period and as such we have tested it for gold indicating 14ct gold.

Not only would this piece make for an excellent collectable/display but also serves as a wonderful piece of antique Victorian celestial jewellery to wear on special occasions, whether be it a party, ball or dinner. Certainly impressionable and distinguished, this piece would be a wonderful conversation starter and the perfect way to share your passion of history and antiques.

Diamond is known to be the birthstone of April.

All of our jewellery comes with a complimentary hard shell gift box with a velvet interior.

Victorian brooches often incorporate romantic motifs such as hearts, crescents, and floral patterns, reflecting the sentimental and symbolic values of the late 19th century.

These pieces typically feature low-carat yellow or rose gold, often topped with silver to securely hold stones, set with old mine-cut or rose-cut diamonds.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut gemstones, closed-back settings or early open-backed settings, hand-carved details, and traditional pin stems with C-clasps or safety hooks.

Antique brooches can be worn pinned to lapels, silk scarves, velvet headbands, or used as a clasp on a structured evening bag to add historic character to contemporary outfits.

Store pieces individually in soft pouches away from moisture, avoid harsh chemical ultrasonic cleaners, and have settings inspected periodically by a professional jeweller to ensure stone security.
