The Edwardian period spans the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, characterised by a revival of classical styles, refined craftsmanship, and elegant table silver designed for formal dining.

Britannia silver is a standard of silver coin or plate containing 95.84 parts pure silver per thousand, introduced by act of Parliament in England in 1696, making it slightly purer and softer than standard sterling silver.

Authentic pieces typically feature a makers mark, a standard mark indicating silver purity, a town assay office mark, and a date letter that corresponds to the specific year of testing and hallmarking.

Antique silver items add historic texture and polished contrast to contemporary tablescapes, working well when paired with minimalist ceramics or organic linen textiles.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive specialized silver polish and a soft microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip desirable patination and damage historic hallmarks.
