Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Edwardian sauce boats on stands, dating from 1910, brings classic Edwardian serveware to the table in silver-plated metal with a bright silver finish. Each vessel rests on cabriole legs ending in hoof pad feet, features a flying scroll handle with chased decoration, and sits upon a matching oval salver with a cut rim. The reflective surface displays smooth polished contours with no dings, dents, or signs of repair. Measuring 10 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 9 cm deep, these sauce boats fit neatly on a dining table or sideboard top for everyday dining or formal dinner parties. They work well for serving gravies, sauces, or dressings during family meals and gatherings, adding a practical and decorative touch to modern table settings.

FAQs

Sauce boats, also known as gravy boats, evolved during the early eighteenth century in Europe to serve warm sauces and gravies separately from main dishes. The addition of matching underplates or stands prevented hot drips from damaging linens and wood table surfaces during formal dining services.

Pieces from this period typically feature electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or a copper base metal coated with a layer of fine silver. Component parts, such as cast legs, handles, and borders, were solder-attached prior to the plating process.

Authentic items from the Edwardian period often bear stamped makers marks, electroplate designation stamps such as EPNS, and specific alphanumeric style codes. Design characteristics include refined scroll work, cabriole-style feet, and classic proportions typical of early 1900s metalwork.

These vessels can be used as functional serveware during holiday meals or adapted for creative styling on a dining table or sideboard. They serve effectively as small decorative containers for sea salt, floral sprigs, or cocktail garnishes.

Silver-plated items should be washed by hand in warm, soapy water using a soft cloth and dried immediately to prevent water spots. Tarnish should be removed gently using a non-abrasive silver foam or polish, avoiding harsh scrubbing that could wear away the outer silver layer.
