Meiji period silver, produced between 1868 and 1912, is renowned for its exceptional technical mastery, intricate hand-chased motifs, and the blending of traditional Japanese artistry with Western functional forms.

Artisans typically used high-purity silver, often marked as jungin or silversmith hallmarks, employing techniques such as hammering, chasing, repousse, and sometimes mixed-metal applications like shakudo or gold inlay.

Authenticity is generally verified through artisan signatures or jungin stamps on the base, combined with characteristic hand-hammered textures, precise engraving, and appropriate natural tarnishing consistent with age.

These pieces can be displayed on a mirrored bar cart, incorporated into a sophisticated tablescape, or used as functional desk accessories to hold fountain pens and small items.

Preserve antique silver by gently dusting with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes that can wear away fine chasing, and storing them in stable humidity away from direct sunlight.
