This Neoclassical candlestick from the nineteenth century embodies Grand Regency design sensibilities through a sculptural composition of gilt bronze and white biscuit porcelain. The piece stands at 34 cm high on a decorative base finished in gold, featuring detailed acanthus leaf mouldings and a square pedestal form. Rising from this heavy metal footing is a matte white biscuit porcelain shaft modelled as a semi-nude female caryatid figure, draped in classical robes. Above the sculpted figure, a golden spherical element connects to a fluted metal candle socket with chased vertical lines and a matching metallic drip pan. The combination of brilliant gilded bronze and unglazed white porcelain creates a striking textural and chromatic contrast suited for refined interior displays. Placed upon a mantelpiece or a side cabinet, this decorative object brings classical antiquity and sophisticated nineteenth-century craftsmanship into domestic settings.

A Neoclassical decorative lighting item inspired by classical antiquity, incorporating a sculpted female figure known as a caryatid to support the upper candle socket.

Craftsmen often combined cast gilt bronze, also known as ormolu, for the sockets and bases with unglazed biscuit porcelain or Parian marble for the sculpted figures.

Authentic pieces display finely hand-chased surface work on the metal elements, sharp detail on the unglazed ceramic figure, and signs of natural oxidisation on underlying cast brass or bronze components.

Display the object on a mantelpiece, marble sideboard top, or alongside contemporary line drawings to introduce a structured classical architectural accent to a modern room.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush. Avoid liquid cleaning agents or water on unglazed biscuit porcelain, and clean gilded bronze using only a dry microfibre cloth to protect the original mercury gilding.
