FAQs

Spoon warmers became popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras to keep serving spoons warm before they were used to ladle hot food, preventing the chilling of gravies and sauces.

They were typically constructed using silver plating over a base metal such as Britannia metal, copper, or nickel silver, often shaped using stamping, casting, and soldering techniques.

Authentic pieces often feature makers marks, date ciphers, or electroplate hallmarks stamped on the base, along with period-appropriate ornamentation and weight consistent with early 20th-century manufacture.

Such pieces can be displayed on a sideboard or dining table as a decorative metal accent, utilised as a small container for trinkets, or incorporated into a curated tablescape.

Clean silver plate gently using a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to maintain the shine without wearing through the thin plating layer, and store in a dry environment.
