Description

19th century Chinese blue and white vase in the Kangxi (1662-1722) manner, newly lamped and re-wired. Of baluster form, decorated with traditional patterns and motifs. There are extensive stapled repairs to the vase which, to our eye, considerably enhance its appeal. Chinese porcelain, having started being imported into Britain in the 16th century, was highly prized and so was repaired when broken which often adds to its beauty

Kangxi style blue and white porcelain refers to ceramics produced in the manner of the Qing Dynasty Kangxi Emperors reign, renowned for brilliant cobalt blue hues and finely detailed narrative scenes.

These vessels are crafted from high-fired white petuntse and kaolin clay, decorated with cobalt oxide pigments under a transparent glaze, and traditionally fired in high-temperature wood or gas kilns.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural ageing characteristics such as base wear, subtle iron-foot impurities, hand-drawn brushwork nuances, and period-appropriate mounting hardware rather than modern synthetic adhesives.

An antique lamp functions as a focal point when placed on side tables or consoles, bridging traditional craftsmanship with modern minimalist or eclectic decor schemes through contrasting textures.

Preservation involves dusting gently with a soft dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaning agents, and ensuring electrical components are safety-tested by a qualified professional.
