Victorian hip flasks gained immense popularity during the 19th century as portable containers for spirits, often used during hunting, travelling, or sporting events by the upper classes.

These flasks were typically constructed from sterling silver, glass, or pewter, and frequently encased in leather, crocodile skin, or wicker to provide a secure grip and protect the metal.

Authentic pieces feature clear British hallmarks stamped on the metal, indicating the assay office, makers mark, and date letter corresponding to the era of manufacture.

An antique flask can be displayed as a decorative accent on a home bar, a gentlemans study desk, or within a glass-fronted cabinet alongside other vintage barware.

Clean the silver gently with a non-abrasive polish while avoiding contact with the leather, and condition the hide periodically with a neutral leather balsam to prevent cracking.
