FAQs

Giltwood lamps from the mid-20th century often draw inspiration from classical architecture, featuring carved wooden bases coated in gold leaf or metallic paint to mimic antique European luxury pieces.

These lamps are typically constructed from carved wood, composition material, or plaster over a wooden core, hand-gilded with metallic leaf or painted to achieve an aged golden finish.

Authenticity is indicated by genuine signs of ageing on the gilding, such as craquelure, minor rubbing of the gold leaf revealing the base bole or wood, and older wiring components that comply with past manufacturing standards.

A vintage giltwood lamp works effectively as an accent piece on a sideboard or desk, adding warmth and a touch of classical texture to contemporary or transitional schemes.

Dust the giltwood surface gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding any chemical cleaners or excessive moisture that can damage the delicate metallic finish.
