The Edwardian era in silverwork spans from 1901 to 1910 and is characterised by a transition from heavy Victorian designs to lighter, more delicate motifs, often drawing inspiration from eighteenth-century styles and incorporating intricate scrollwork.

These items were traditionally crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, casting, and hand-chasing, followed by hallmark stamping to verify the metal purity, maker, and assay office.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped directly onto the metal, which include a standard mark for silver purity, an assay office mark, a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture, and a makers mark.

This piece can be displayed on a desk, within a glass-fronted cabinet, or placed inside a vintage leather-bound book to add a touch of historical interest and refined metal texture to a study or library space.

Antique silver should be handled with clean cotton gloves to prevent skin oils from causing tarnishing, and cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive silver cloth without harsh chemical dips to preserve the underlying patina.
