Mark Seabrook Antiques has dated this 17th Century Joint Stool to the 17th Century.
..there is a small shrinkage crack in the top, probably happened in the first few years of its long life...the rails underneath the seat are carved on the front and back with bold gouge carving, typical of this period and have been left plain on the sides....each elaborate leg is skillfully turned with an inverted baluster shape, joined by plain thick stretchers....just a delightful example from this early time and to think all turned by eye on a pole-lathe....amazing..!
