FAQs

A rummer is a large, sturdy drinking glass that became popular in Britain during the late 18th and 19th centuries, typically used for serving ales, wines, and punches.

These vessels were traditionally hand-blown from lead glass or flint glass, often featuring hand-cut geometric patterns and polished pontil marks on the base.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit heavy lead weight, minor surface wear consistent with age, irregular bubble inclusions within the glass, and a rough or polished pontil scar underneath the foot.

Antique rummers can be used as functional drinking vessels for dinners or styled as decorative bud vases on mantelpieces and sideboards to introduce historical texture.

Wash antique glass by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives and sudden temperature changes to protect the fragile historic material.
