Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Inlaid bookcases became prominent during the 18th and 19th centuries, utilising decorative marquetry and parquetry techniques such as satinwood and boxwood banding to enhance plain timber surfaces.

These pieces were typically constructed from hardwoods like mahogany, walnut, or oak, featuring dovetail joints, hand-planed backs, and intricate contrasting wood veneers for the decorative banding.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, timber shrinkage consistent with age, old-world oxidisation under shelves, and irregularities in hand-applied inlay work rather than modern machine stamping.

Balance traditional wooden tones by arranging books vertically and horizontally, incorporating modern decorative objects, and ensuring adequate negative space on the shelves to avoid visual heaviness.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels to prevent wood cracking, keep out of direct sunlight, and periodically nourish the timber using traditional microcrystalline wax rather than modern silicone polishes.
