Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian inlaid mahogany bookcase typically combines a glass-fronted upper section with a solid cupboard or drawer base. Influenced by 18th-century revival styles such as Sheraton and Hepplewhite, these pieces feature decorative marquetry or stringing inlays, astragal glazed doors, and architectural pediments.

Cabinet makers primarily used solid mahogany and rich mahogany veneers over pine or oak carcases. Construction techniques included hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass locks and escutcheons, and individual mouth-blown glass panes secured with wood glazing bars.

Authentic period pieces display signs of hand-craftsmanship, such as slight irregularities in the glass panes, hand-sawn backboards, and hand-cut dovetails. Original hardware often shows slight patination around lock plates and brass handles.

A glazed bookcase can serve as a focal point in a dining room, study, or hallway. Modern styling involves arranging contemporary ceramics, framed artwork, and curated book collections on the adjustable shelves alongside historic items to contrast eras.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer lifting. Regular dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and an occasional application of natural beeswax polish will protect the original finish.
