Art Deco jewellery is characterised by stylised motifs, geometric precision, and a heavy influence from industrial design, often incorporating vibrant enamel work and precious metals.

Craftspeople typically used sterling silver alongside techniques such as guilloche or translucent plique-a-jour enamelling to create depth and luminous colour variations on metal surfaces.

Authenticity is determined by examining hallmarks, the weight and oxidation of the silver base, the hand-applied texture of the enamel, and the construction of the pin fastening mechanism on the reverse.

These pieces can be pinned to lapels, silk scarves, or hat bands to add a subtle flash of period colour and sophisticated metallic detail to contemporary outfits.

Enamel is sensitive to harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, and sudden temperature changes; pieces should be stored individually in soft pouches and cleaned gently with a dry microfibre cloth.
