The Georgian era spans the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the transition from ornate rococo to neoclassical restraint.

Georgian hollowware is typically crafted from sterling silver, bearing British hallmarks that usually include a makers mark, a standard mark indicating sterling fineness, a city assay mark such as the leopards head for London, and a date letter.

Authentication relies on verifying legible hallmarks against official assay office registers, examining physical wear patterns consistent with age, checking for seamless construction or traditional solder joints, and testing metal composition.

Antique silver pieces add a layer of historical contrast and polished reflection when displayed on open shelving, sideboards, or mantels, pairing effectively with both minimalist modern aesthetics and traditional decors.

Antique silver should be gently cleaned using non-abrasive silver polishes only when necessary, handled with soft cloths or cotton gloves to avoid skin oils, and stored in a low-humidity environment away from direct sunlight.
