FAQs

Adjustable brass desk lamps gained popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, designed primarily for offices, studies, and libraries to provide focused task lighting for reading and writing.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from heavy brass, bronze, or copper components, often featuring weighted iron bases and occasionally glass or enamelled metal shades.

Authenticity is identified by examining the casting quality, screw fittings, wiring channels, patina oxidation, and maker marks or foundry stamps usually located on the base or underside.

This item can be styled as a functional task light on a home office desk, a bedside reading lamp, or an accent light on a sideboard to introduce metallic warmth and classic character.

Preserve the metal by dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical brass cleaners that strip the natural historical patina, and ensuring modern electrical components are safety-tested.
