Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Decanter labels, often called bottle tickets, emerged in the mid-18th century during the Georgian era to identify the contents of decanters on the dining table, evolving from simple parchment tags into ornate silver and enamel plaques.

Traditional bottle tickets were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, though examples in Sheffield plate, enamel, mother-of-pearl, bone, and gold can also be found from various periods.

Authentic Georgian pieces typically display clear hallmarks, including the makers mark, lion passant for sterling silver, and date letters, alongside period-appropriate typography and hand-engraved or pierced decoration.

Antique silver wine labels can be displayed mounted in small shadow box frames on a study wall, or styled resting on a mahogany sideboard alongside crystal decanters for a touch of historical elegance.

Preserve antique silver by gently cleaning it with a soft microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish only when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials that can wear down original hallmarks and engraving.
