Description

An absolutely awesome antique diamond engagement ring. The natural diamond - graded as K colour by HRD Antwerp - tops up incredibly white, and fizzes with fire and brilliance. The clarity grading of SI2 is, to us, unfathomably harsh; the stone is not just eye-clean, but displays no imperfections even through a jeweller's loupe. We would have graded this as VS2. The diamond is secured in an eight-claw collet with triangular detailing in the gallery, leading to a slender 18k yellow gold shank with spear-shaped shoulders.

Accompanied by a diamond grading report from HRD Antwerp.

Cut: Old European cut.

Colour: K.

Clarity: SI2 (the stone is clean to the naked eye).

Carat: 2.60.

Circa: 1935.

Size: M 1/2 (UK) or 6.25 (US). Free sizing available.

Measurements: The diamond is 8.91 x 9.06mm. Sits 5.85mm from the finger.

Weight: 3.48 grams.

Metal: 18k yellow gold. Tested.

Art Deco jewellery is characterised by geometric precision, stylised motifs, and a distinct departure from the flowing curves of the preceding Edwardian and Art Nouveau periods, favouring clean lines and symmetry.

Engagement rings from this era frequently utilised yellow gold, platinum, and white gold settings to showcase hand-cut diamonds such as old European cuts and old mine cuts.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-crafted details, subtle irregularities in gemstone facets consistent with manual cutting techniques, and period-appropriate metal hallmarks.

An antique ring pairs effectively with contemporary minimalist bands or mixed-metal stackable rings, allowing the historical craftsmanship to serve as a focal point.

Vintage jewellery should be cleaned gently using warm soapy water and a soft brush, avoiding harsh ultrasonic cleaners that might compromise historic settings or fragile stones.
