Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late 18th century, drawing heavy inspiration from classical Greek and Roman antiquities. It is characterised by symmetrical proportions, straight lines, and refined classical motifs such as urns, acanthus leaves, and gilt bronze mounts.

Neoclassical lamps typically incorporate natural quarried stones such as green or white marble and alabaster, paired with cast brass or ormolu mounts. Shades were historically crafted from silk, parchment, or pleated fabric.

Authentication involves examining the casting quality of the bronze or brass mounts, the mineral composition and wear patterns of the marble, and the wiring or hardware components. Makers marks or stamps on the base often indicate the workshop or designer.

These lamps serve as striking focal points when placed on sideboards, consoles, or large desks. Pairing them with contemporary neutral furnishings allows the rich green marble and gilt details to stand out without overwhelming the space.

Dust the marble and mounts regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners, abrasives, or acidic solutions, as these can strip the gilt finish or etch the polished marble surface.
