This Arts and Crafts footstool originates from 1920 in an English Country House style, attributed to Arthur Simpson of Kendall. The frame is constructed from solid oak with a warm brown timber colour, complemented by a woven brown leather strap seat secured around the edges with brass studding. Details include four tapered legs and curve-shaped side rails. The overall dimensions measure 26.5 cm high, 40.5 cm wide, and 30.5 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this piece suits placement beside a fireplace hearth as a low seat or footrest. It also functions as a compact decorative accent stool in a living room, hallway, or study.

Originating in the late nineteenth century, the Arts and Crafts movement emphasised simple structural forms, visible joinery, and natural materials as a reaction against mass industrialisation.

Craftspeople predominantly used solid native hardwoods such as English oak, paired with natural materials including woven leather webbing, rushed seats, or heavy wool upholstery.

Authentic pieces frequently display exposed mortise and tenon joinery, quarter-sawn oak grain patterns, subtle hand-carved chamfers, and occasional maker marks or stamped labels underneath the frame.

Position the stool beside a low armchair, near a fireplace hearth, or within a hallway to add organic wood tones and textural leather contrast to modern decor.

Treat the wood frame periodically with natural beeswax polish and apply a neutral leather conditioner to the woven straps to prevent drying and cracking.
