FAQs

Late Georgian design, spanning roughly from the late 18th to the early 19th century, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a shift towards more restrained ornamentation influenced by neoclassical ideals.

Cabinetmakers during this era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, often supplemented by secondary woods like oak and pine for drawer linings and internal framing, alongside hand-blown crown glass.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, handmade screws or brass fixings, natural timber shrinkage, and traditional finishing techniques such as shellac polish or wax.

This piece can serve as a focal point in a study or living area, pairing well with neutral walls, contemporary seating, and curated collections of books and objects to create visual contrast.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
