Victorian silver mustard pots were popular dining table accessories used during the 19th century to serve prepared mustard, reflecting the elaborate dining etiquette and silversmithing craftsmanship of the era.

These items were typically crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as spinning, casting, and hand-soldering, often featuring blue glass liners to protect the silver from corrosion by mustard acids.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include the makers mark, standard mark indicating sterling silver, assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the Victorian period.

A period silver mustard pot can be displayed on a sideboard, within a glass-fronted cabinet, or utilized as a decorative container for small desk accessories or floral stems in a contemporary setting.

Silver should be cleaned infrequently using specialized non-abrasive silver polish to preserve the patina, handled with clean gloves to prevent skin oils from causing tarnishing, and stored in a dry, tarnish-resistant environment.
